How to make shrimp mix
by Fredrik Hagblom ( the Cichlid Gallery )

Shrimp mix can be made in many ways. This is how I do it.

I use second rate frozen boild shrimp because that's the cheapest you can get around here. It is OK to use any type of shrimp and it doesn't matter if they are cooked or raw. It is important that they still have heads since the high amount of shell is good for the fish.

I use 1/3 of shrimp and 2/3 of green peas for herbivoure cichlids and 1/2 of shrimp and 1/2 of green peas for omnivoure and carnivoure cichlids.

Put the shrimp in a blender or in a bowl if you wish to use a hand-mixer like in the pic.

Grind it until it becomes a smooth paste.

Then add frozen green peas.

Grind the whole thing until it is a lump free paste.

Add some liquid multi vitamin. It is easy to find this type of vitamine at health stores.

Some people use eggs as a binder but I think it works alot better with gelatine powder. Dissolve the gelatine powder according to the instructions on the box or can. Some people heat the whole mix up to dissolve the gelatine but i find that unnecessary.

Make sure the mix is about room temperatured. Dissolve the gelatine powder in hot water and pour it into the mix and use the blender again for a few minutes and you will be fine.

Then put the mix into plastic bags.

Flatten the bags and put them in the freezer on an even surface. Ones it's frozen you can easily break it into peices and feed your fish.

This has worked wonders with my cichlids.
